Opiah Wines

Opiah Wines

Urban Dictionary [noun] : “A bunch of fools”.

The Opiah wine project originated from a conversation between 4 mates at a Thursday night tennis group who were keen wine enthusiasts. The aim was simply to make premium wine, and share it amongst the group. Six years later we are now making more than we can drink, but our commitment to quality is still the same.

Premium wine starts with premium fruit and the group lucked upon a relationship with Phil Abela owner of Swallowfield Vinyards in Gembrook, where we shook hands on the smallest contract in the Yarra Valley - just 2 tonnes of premium Pinot Noir grapes.

Swallowfield Vineyards is a family owned vineyard on 150 acres at the forest’s edge and are the most southern vineyard in the picturesque upper Yarra Valley.

To make premimum wine you also need a great wine maker and the Opiah group were incredibly lucky again when Dylan McMahon from Seville Estate agreed to make the wine.

Seville Estate was named Winery of the Year in 2019 by James Halliday at the 2019 Halliday Wine Companion Awards.
